History of Georgia's Barrier Islands Local historian Buddy Sullivan, will present a six-week comprehensive overview of the history of Georgia's barrier islands and the adjoining mainland. Sullivan has conducted this winter series for the Coastal Georgia Historical Society since 1995. Tuesday afternoons, January 13 - February 17, 2015, 4-6 p.m., A. W. The Big Read "Their Eyes Were Watching God" The Big Read, the community-wide reading initiative returns in 2015 with Zora Neale Hurston's vibrant and achingly human novel. Big Read programs will take place Feb. 6-March 7 and include discussions, performances, films, art exhibits, and school programs designed to get everyone in the community reading, discussing, and thinking about Zora Neale Hurston and her significant work. Southeast Georgia Health System 2015 Bridge Run Unique among bridge runs, the event takes place entirely on the 7,780-foot long Sidney Lanier Bridge in Brunswick, Ga. At its center, the bridge measures 480 feet high above the Brunswick River, the tallest span in the state. Certified by the U.S. Track and Field Association as "the toughest 5K in Georgia," the course is sufficiently difficult to entice professionals and experienced amateurs, and manageable enough for walkers of all ages to enjoy.
